Samsung is hosting Galaxy Unpacked on July 22 in London to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 foldable phones. The company is restructuring its lineup this time, introducing both a standard Z Fold 8 and a premium Z Fold 8 Ultra—mirroring the strategy Samsung uses for the regular Galaxy S series.

The Z Fold 8 will run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with 16GB of RAM standard. The Ultra model steps up with a 200MP main camera, an extra telephoto lens, and a larger 5,000mAh battery compared to the standard 4,800mAh pack. Both phones charge at fast speeds and support wireless charging.
What Changes From Last Year
Samsung refined the hinge mechanism again. The folds feel smoother now with less noticeable crease in the middle of the screen. The displays use AMOLED panels with higher peak brightness for outdoor visibility. The aspect ratio is slightly wider, giving more screen real estate when unfolded.
Software improvements include better multitasking when the phone is open. Samsung’s One UI now handles split-screen apps more intuitively, and you can drag windows around like a mini computer.
Camera and Video Capabilities
The Z Fold 8 captures 4K video at 60 frames per second. Night mode got a bump in brightness without adding too much noise. The Ultra model’s telephoto lens means you can zoom without losing detail, a feature the standard model lacks. Portrait mode works better on both, especially when the phone is folded and you’re using the cover screen.
Both phones take the same high-quality selfies through the under-display camera. The quality improved from last generation—less distortion, better edge handling.
Price and Availability
Samsung hasn’t announced pricing yet. The standard Z Fold 8 is expected to start around $1,899 USD. The Ultra will cost significantly more. Preorders typically begin the week after Unpacked, with shipping around August.
The July 22 event in London marks another chapter in Samsung’s push to make foldables mainstream. Whether the Ultra model succeeds depends on whether people believe a folding phone is worth $2,300 or more.
