Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, 2026, alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Leaked certification filings and supply chain reports describe the Wide as a shorter, broader foldable with a 7.6-inch inner display set to a 4:3 aspect ratio — a departure from the taller book-style format Samsung has used since the original Galaxy Fold.
The Wide model carries the internal designation SM-F971U. When folded, the device offers a 5.4-inch bezel-free cover screen. The 4:3 ratio is intended to make the phone feel more natural when watching video and using productivity apps, since most content natively favors wider proportions. The device weighs approximately 200 grams, making it lighter than the taller Fold 8 Ultra at around 210 grams and significantly lighter than the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold at 309 grams.
Specs consistent across leaked reports for both Fold 8 models include the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging, and a 200MP main camera. One UI 9 running on Android 17 is expected to bring Gemini AI features to foldables first. Samsung has not confirmed any of these specifications officially.

The naming structure is also notable. Based on certification filings, the wider model may launch simply as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, with the taller traditional model carrying the Ultra designation. This would represent an inversion of Samsung’s usual numbering logic. Final branding will only become clear at the July 22 event.
Pre-orders are expected to open on announcement day, with device shipping scheduled for early August. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will compete in a foldable market that now includes the Apple foldable iPhone due in September. The base Fold 8 has been expected since earlier this year.
