Samsung held its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, unveiling the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 with thinner designs and refined creases. The Z Fold 8 adopts a “new shape” — a book-style foldable inspired by the iPhone‘s passport dimensions that Samsung says pushes the form factor forward.

Both devices run the latest Snapdragon processor found in the S26 flagship lineup. Samsung claims the Z Fold 8 features an almost invisible crease and improved durability. The Z Flip 8 is also thinner. Both get upgraded stylus support on the foldable display.
What Changed
Samsung didn’t reinvent either device. The Z Fold 8 keeps the horizontal orientation that’s worked in previous gens but refines the thickness, crease visibility, and internal components. The Z Flip 8 continues its clamshell form with similar improvements.
Performance gains come via processor, not a radical redesign. Samsung positioned these as refinements rather than revolutionary jumps—which is fair. The foldable market has matured enough that iterative updates resonate if they fix the small frustrations.
Timing and Availability
The Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 ship this summer. Preorders started immediately after the event. Pricing remains in line with previous generations, which means flagship prices for devices that still carry trade-off compromises compared to flat-screen phones.
Samsung’s foldables are no longer experiments. They’ve carved out a real market segment for users willing to pay for form factor innovation.
Both foldables launch alongside Samsung’s annual flagship refresh, signaling the Z series has graduated from novelty to core product line.
