Sennheiser launched the Momentum 5 Wireless headphones in the United States on June 16, priced at $399.99. The new flagship promises 57 hours of playback with active noise cancellation switched on and introduces a user-replaceable battery — a first for the Momentum line.
The headphones support aptX Lossless via Snapdragon Sound and arrive with a day-one firmware update that unlocks Dolby Atmos with head-tracking for supported content. Sennheiser doubled the microphone count dedicated to ANC and transparency to four per side, claiming the new system is up to three times more effective at filtering ambient voice chatter compared to the Momentum 4.
The user-replaceable 700mAh battery is one of the more talked-about features. It can be swapped with a standard Phillips-head screwdriver, no specialist tools needed. Sennheiser is framing this as a longevity decision — owners can refresh the power cell after a few years rather than replacing the entire headphone. The company says the battery was engineered to meet daily-use durability standards.
The Momentum 4, launched in 2022, was widely reviewed as one of the best headphones in its price class. The fifth generation keeps the same general form factor while adding spatial audio, longer battery life, and improved ANC. Its closest direct competitors are Sony’s WH-1000XM6 and the Bose QuietComfort Ultra, both of which are priced similarly and do not offer a replaceable battery.
The Momentum 5 is available in Black, White, and Denim colorways. Sennheiser Hi-Res Audio certification is included, and the headphones carry Bluetooth with multipoint connection support for pairing with two devices simultaneously. Early buyers can find the headphones at sennheiser-hearing.com and select retailers from this week.
The launch puts Sennheiser back in direct competition with Sony after a period when the Momentum line received less attention than rivals. Sony’s flagship hardware push this month includes both the Xperia 1 VIII phone and the WH-1000XM6. The ROG Xreal R1 AR glasses also launched this month for gaming audio. Full product details and the replaceable battery replacement guide are on the Sennheiser website.
