Shahid Kapoor’s O’Romeo opens as Cocktail 2 nears milestone

By Soniya ChowdhuryAugust 3, 20262 Mins Read

Shahid Kapoor’s action thriller “O’Romeo,” co-starring Triptii Dimri, opened in Indian theaters with a first day collection of 9.01 crore rupees, according to trade reports this week. The film marks Kapoor’s latest lead role following a string of recent releases and finished its run with a lifetime domestic net of roughly 73 crore rupees.

Separately, Kapoor’s romantic drama “Cocktail 2,” alongside Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, has continued its theatrical run and crossed 90 crore rupees in India net collections, overtaking O’Romeo’s lifetime domestic haul to become Kapoor’s better-performing release of the two. The film’s worldwide gross has climbed to roughly 129 crore rupees, and trade trackers now place it as the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood release of 2026, having overtaken O’Romeo for that position as well.

The film’s box office run has continued despite a typical weekday slowdown and a reduced number of screens as it moves past its second week, a pattern common for mid-budget romantic comedies once the opening weekend rush fades. Trade watchers now expect Cocktail 2 to push toward the 100 crore rupee mark domestically in the coming days if its per-day collections hold up.

Kapoor has also spoken publicly this week about the pressures of promoting films in the current climate, saying that praise on social media is often paid for and calling for more honest conversation within the industry about a film’s actual performance. His comments come as both of his recent releases continue to draw comparisons from trade analysts and fans tracking which of the two performs better in the long run. “I personally never believe anything anybody says unless I am in the room or I saw it myself,” Kapoor said, explaining that taking online narratives “with a pinch of salt” has helped him avoid being swayed by manufactured perception. He argued that marketing budgets now play as large a role in a film’s early buzz as the movie itself, and that audiences have grown sharp enough to spot promotional campaigns dressed up as genuine reaction.
