After a powerful opening week aided by the Republic Day weekend, Border 2, led by sunny deol, has started to witness a slowdown at the domestic box office. Despite the dip, the war drama continues to maintain steady collections and remains firmly placed among the top earners of the year.

On Saturday, Border 2 collected Rs 17.75 crore, taking its total domestic box office haul to Rs 252.75 crore, as per trade tracker Sacnilk. The film is now targeting the Rs 350 crore mark at the worldwide box office.

In terms of occupancy, the sunny deol starrer recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 28.62 per cent on Saturday. Morning shows began at 11.05 per cent, which rose to 28.11 per cent in the afternoon. The sequel currently stands as the second highest-grossing film of Varun Dhawan’s career after Dilwale, which earned Rs 388 crore worldwide. If collections hold steady, the film could soon become his highest-grossing release.

However, Border 2 is trailing behind sunny deol’s earlier blockbuster Gadar 2, which had amassed Rs 336.2 crore within nine days of its release.

After enjoying a relatively competition-free first week, the film is now facing pressure from Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3, which opened to Rs 4 crore on Friday and collected Rs 6 crore on Saturday.

Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh and serves as a sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 classic Border. Along with sunny deol and Varun Dhawan, the film stars Ahan Shetty and Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles, with Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana in pivotal parts.

Recently, sunny deol marked the film crossing the Rs 300 crore milestone worldwide by sharing a celebratory video on Instagram.

Despite a noticeable slowdown after its strong opening, Border 2 continues to post stable numbers at the box office. With competition intensifying, all eyes remain on how far sunny deol’s film can go as it aims for higher worldwide milestones.
