The DC Universe’s most anticipated reboot got its biggest night yet on Wednesday. Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa led the cast of Supergirl at a fan event in Leicester Square, London, with the film opening in global theaters on June 22.
Alcock, best known as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, takes on the title role as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian cousin. Her casting drew significant attention when first announced, and the London premiere offered audiences their clearest look yet at the performance the studio is building this franchise around.
Momoa arrived at the event on motorcycles with a group of friends, dressed in character energy for the part. He plays Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter and DC antihero. He brought his children Nakoa-Wolf, 17, and Lola, 18, and his girlfriend Adria Arjona, all of whom were photographed on the blue carpet alongside the rest of the cast.
Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley also attended. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and represents the first major theatrical release under the new James Gunn-led DC Studios, which announced a full franchise reboot in 2023 with a plan to build a new shared cinematic universe from scratch.
The stakes are real. DC’s previous slate generated mixed results commercially and critically across the last decade. Supergirl carries the weight of a complete reset. Unlike the Earth-bound stories of the Snyder era, this version leans into cosmic scope — with Lobo’s presence signaling a universe that expands well beyond the planet from the start.
Early tracking puts the domestic opening in the $70–85 million range. That would rank among the stronger DC debuts in recent years. The film opens this weekend alongside Toy Story 5, which posted a record-breaking animated debut, meaning Supergirl competes for adult and teen audiences rather than families.
Critical reaction from the premiere was cautiously positive. Reviewers cited Alcock’s performance as the film’s biggest asset, and Momoa’s Lobo was described as the most entertaining antihero introduction the franchise has attempted. A wide critical rollout is expected before the June 22 global opening.
