Tesla launched the Model Y L in the US on July 2, 2026. This is a stretched, three-row, six-seat SUV built at Giga Texas. It adds 150mm to the wheelbase and about 180mm to overall length. The Launch Series is priced at $61,990 and includes a year of Full Self-Driving and Supercharging, with a 325-mile range.
The Model Y L uses a 2+2+2 seating layout instead of a squeezed-in seven-seat bench. The second row has independent captain’s chairs with heating, ventilation, powered armrests, and one-touch fold. The third row has heated seats with power recline and child-seat anchors. It’s practical space designed for real use.
What This Vehicle Solves
Tesla discontinued the Model S and Model X years ago. It left a gap for buyers who wanted more than the standard Model Y but didn’t want an older car. The Model Y L fills that gap. It’s produced now. It ships now. It’s not vaporware.
The price—$61,990—is aggressive. It competes directly with other premium three-row SUVs. The electric range at 325 miles is solid for a larger vehicle. The included year of Full Self-Driving and Supercharging makes the effective purchase price lower if you actually use those features.
The Texas Factor
Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, promised cool news about Giga Texas scaling on July 7. Production ramp is critical here. The Model Y L needs volume to matter. One launch means nothing if the factory can’t produce at scale.
Giga Texas is the world’s largest factory by structure. It’s built to produce volume. If Tesla can hit production targets, the Model Y L becomes a real contender in the premium SUV space.
The best product launch is one where you can actually buy the product. Tesla made that happen with the Y L.
