Being Heumann is scheduled as the opening-night film. The Apple Original is directed by Siân Heder and tells the story of disability-rights activist Judith Heumann. The Associated Press reported in July that the film will make its world premiere on September 10 and that Ruth Madeley will play Heumann. The announcement gives the festival an opening that connects a major premiere with a real-life story of public advocacy.

AP also reported that the festival’s wider lineup includes world premieres from Chris Rock and Peter Farrelly. Rock’s Misty Green is described as a drama and Farrelly’s I Play Rocky follows the making of the classic boxing film.
