The eight best teams in the 2026 FIFA World Cup advance to the quarterfinals this weekend across three days. Four single-elimination matches from July 9 to July 11 will determine who reaches the semifinals and one step closer to lifting the trophy on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.
This is the tournament’s cruelest stage. Every mistake ends a team’s summer. Every victory propels a nation into the next round. No rematches. No second chances.
Thursday July 9: Morocco vs. France at Boston
Morocco shocked Canada in the Round of 16. Now they face the French machine at Boston Stadium, 4 p.m. ET. France arrived at the quarterfinals relatively smoothly. Morocco’s path was harder, grittier. The team has momentum. France has pedigree.
Friday July 10: Two Heavyweight Clashes
Portugal takes Spain in Arlington, Texas, at 3 p.m. ET. Both teams have world-class midfields and strikers. Expect speed, skill, and desperate defending in the final minutes.
In Seattle, the USMNT (or Belgium, depending on Wednesday‘s result) faces Spain’s Round of 16 winner at 5 p.m. ET. An American run to the semifinals would electrify the continent. But Spain doesn’t lose easily.
Saturday July 11: Argentina and Brazil’s Paths Collide
Argentina meets Egypt at Atlanta at noon ET. Brazil takes on Mexico or England at Miami, 5 p.m. ET. Argentina has been methodical, grinding out wins. Brazil plays with flair but also with inconsistency. Either outcome feels possible.
The Road Ahead
By July 12, four teams will remain. Two semifinals on July 14 and July 15 set the final. The winner is crowned on Sunday, July 19.
The quarterfinals are where talent stops mattering. Only will, fitness, and a little luck get you through.
