Xiaomi 17 Max Leak Points to 200MP Main Camera and Periscope Zoom

By Tarek HasanFebruary 21, 20262 Mins Read

Early details about the next addition to Xiaomi’s flagship lineup have begun to surface, suggesting the company is preparing a noticeably different camera strategy for the larger Max variant.

Information circulating through Chinese social media platform Weibo indicates the Xiaomi 17 Max will move beyond the triple-50-megapixel approach used in the standard model. The leak comes from the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, who shared sensor specifications but offered little else about the device’s hardware.

According to that post, the phone will carry a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HPE main sensor with a 1/1.4-inch optical format. It will be paired with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX8-series periscope telephoto unit measuring 1/1.953 inches, alongside a separate 50-megapixel ultrawide camera.

That arrangement differs from the regular Xiaomi 17, which reportedly uses three identical 50-megapixel cameras across its primary, telephoto and ultrawide modules. The Max version therefore appears positioned as the imaging-focused alternative within the same family rather than simply a larger battery variant.

The company’s ongoing collaboration with Leica is also expected to continue, suggesting tuning and colour processing similar to recent flagship releases.

Other specifications remain mostly unconfirmed, though earlier reports cited a display measuring roughly 6.8 inches and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The phone is also expected to carry a notably large 8,000mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Unlike the Pro and Pro Max models, the device is not believed to include a secondary rear display. Instead, its physical design is said to follow the standard Xiaomi 17’s layout.

The same source claims a domestic release window in China during the second quarter of 2026. There is currently little indication of an international launch, with the company reportedly focusing global distribution on the regular Xiaomi 17 and the Ultra model.

For now, the information remains limited to leaks rather than official confirmation. But if accurate, the Max variant may stand apart not by size alone, but by a distinct camera configuration within the lineup.
