VIENNA — Xiaomi’s new 17T Pro is positioning itself as a serious option for mobile photography enthusiasts, with the company continuing to build on its collaboration with Leica through a camera-focused experience that extends beyond its flagship smartphone lineup.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro and the more affordable Xiaomi 17T were tested during several days of hands-on use in Vienna, where both devices were put through a range of everyday photography situations. The experience centered on camera performance, including Leica-influenced imaging, low-light shooting, telephoto capabilities, and overall usability during travel.

While the T Series sits below Xiaomi’s flagship range, it occupies an important place within the company’s smartphone portfolio. The latest generation continues to incorporate Leica-inspired optics, image processing, and creative photography modes, bringing those features to a broader segment of users.

The evaluation was conducted using a Xiaomi 17T Pro in Deep Blue and a Xiaomi 17T in Deep Violet. According to the reviewer, Xiaomi provided travel accommodations for the hands-on testing period but did not pay for coverage and was not granted access to findings before publication.

Most of the attention during testing focused on the Xiaomi 17T Pro, which was described as the more compelling device for mobile photographers. Both smartphones, however, were used extensively in real-world conditions across the Austrian capital.

Vienna’s historic architecture, ornate interiors, and changing outdoor light provided varied opportunities to assess camera performance. Images captured during the trip included detailed indoor scenes, decorative ceilings, and city landmarks photographed under dramatic evening skies.

What stood out most during the experience was not a single camera feature or shooting mode, but the degree to which the smartphones replaced the need for dedicated camera equipment.

The reviewer noted that throughout several days of sightseeing and travel photography, a mirrorless camera remained unused. Instead, the Xiaomi 17T Pro and Xiaomi 17T handled all image-making duties during the trip.

For a professional photographer, that represented a notable shift in practice. The convenience of having a capable camera immediately available appeared to outweigh the process of unpacking larger equipment, setting up gear, and managing images afterward.

The experience ultimately highlighted a reality familiar to many travelers: moments often unfold quickly, and the camera that is already in hand can be the one that captures them best. During the Vienna test period, the Xiaomi 17T Pro proved capable enough that reaching for a separate camera system rarely seemed necessary.
