Yamaha R2 Launches in India at ₹2.30 Lakh

Yamaha has launched the YZF-R2 in India at a starting price of ₹2,30,500 ex-showroom in Delhi, making the country the first global market to receive the new R-series motorcycle. India Today reported the launch on Aug. 27, while BikeWale separately reported the same starting price and positioned the model against other 200cc motorcycles.

The Yamaha R2 is offered in three variants. India Today listed the base version at ₹2,30,500, the quick-shifter variant at ₹2,39,500 and the range-topping R2 M at ₹2,53,000. The base model is available in Metallic Black and Dark Bluish Gray, while the quick-shifter version comes in Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue. The R2 M is offered in Metallic Gray.

Power comes from a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-valve engine with double overhead camshafts and fuel injection. India Today reported an output of 26.5bhp and peak torque of 19.1Nm. The engine uses a finger-follower rocker-arm valvetrain with diamond-like carbon coating, a detail the company links to technology used on its R1 motorcycle.

The motorcycle weighs 149kg and uses a high-tensile steel tube diamond frame. India Today reported that Yamaha claims it is the lightest motorcycle in its segment. The equipment list includes 37mm upside-down front forks, a rear monoshock, 17-inch wheels, dual-channel ABS, traction control and an assist-and-slipper clutch.

The upper variants add a third-generation bi-directional quick shifter. The R2 M also receives adjustable suspension and levers, a faux-suede seat, a three-dimensional emblem and a silver-finished swingarm. Yamaha’s Ride Control system provides Street, Sport and Rain modes, while a 5-inch colour TFT display shows ride and navigation information.

India Today reported that the motorcycle will be available through Yamaha Blue Square dealerships from mid-September 2026. It said the model was developed in Japan with Indian Yamaha teams and is intended to strengthen the company’s R-series presence in India. BikeWale reported that the R2 will compete with the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR 210. Final on-road prices will vary by location because the launch figures are ex-showroom prices.
