Pakistan’s Aiman Anwer Retires From International Cricket and Begins Match-Referee Chapter

The fast bowler was also part of Pakistan squads at four World Cup tournaments. The ICC lists appearances at the 2018, 2020 and 2023 Women’s T20 World Cups and the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. Those selections placed her inside several major stages of Pakistan women’s cricket even though her international record was concentrated in the shorter formats.

The retirement does not close her connection with cricket. The PCB said Anwer has recently worked as a broadcaster and made her debut as a match referee in the ongoing National Women’s Under-19 Tournament on Monday. She had completed the induction course for that role in January. The transition gives her a route to remain involved in the sport while moving away from the demands of international playing and travel.

The ICC described Anwer as a right-arm medium-fast bowler whose international career ran from 2016 to 2023. Its profile lists her age as 34, consistent with the PCB’s account of a player who spent roughly a decade moving through national-team, tournament and post-playing roles.

For Pakistan, the announcement removes an experienced white-ball bowler from the pool ahead of future selections. For Anwer, the next test will be learning the different responsibilities of officiating: applying playing conditions, managing match situations and making decisions independently.
