MG Hector Tomahawk Launch Adds EV and PHEV Choices for Indian SUV Buyers

By Saleh MohammadAugust 27, 20262 Mins Read

The mg hector tomahawk has arrived in India in two powertrain versions, giving buyers a choice between a fully electric SUV and a plug-in hybrid. Moneycontrol reported on Wednesday that JSW MG launched both versions, with introductory ex-showroom prices starting at Rs 19.50 lakh for the EV and Rs 25.70 lakh for the PHEV. The figures are launch prices and do not represent the final on-road cost in every city.

MG’s official product page presents the Tomahawk as a seven-seat vehicle built on the company’s ADAPT platform. The page describes the EV and PHEV as separate ways to approach the same family-SUV brief: the EV is aimed at drivers with dependable charging for city and short-trip use, while the PHEV adds a petrol engine for longer journeys or areas where charging is less convenient.

The plug-in hybrid is the more unusual version in the Indian market. Autocar India lists a 1.5-litre petrol-electric automatic setup, three rows of seats and a claimed combined range of more than 1,100 kilometres. The publication also lists more than 115 kilometres of claimed electric-only range, while warning that real-world performance will vary with driving style, traffic, road conditions and charging habits.

Features highlighted in the launch coverage include large infotainment displays, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance equipment on the higher trim. Autocar lists V2L, V2V and V2H support on the PHEV Essence version. MG’s own page says the Tomahawk EV can offer Vehicle-to-Home capability, allowing the battery to supply home appliances during an outage, although buyers should confirm the exact equipment and installation requirements with the company.

Delivery timing is another difference between the versions. MG says EV deliveries are planned from September 2026, while PHEV test drives and deliveries are planned from November. The company’s page also says the official NCAP rating will be shared once certification is complete, so buyers should not treat a global safety platform or a marketing claim as a tested crash rating.

The new mg hector tomahawk range places electrification inside a familiar three-row SUV format, but the decision between EV and PHEV will depend on charging access, daily distance and budget. The clearest comparison will come after independent road tests, certified range figures and customer deliveries begin.
