Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix original film “Office Romance” has reached number one on the platform’s global movie charts for June, with the romantic comedy accumulating enough viewing hours in its opening week to sit comfortably ahead of its competition.

Lopez stars as the workaholic CEO of an airline whose rigid approach to workplace rules is tested when a lawyer played by Brett Goldstein joins the company. Goldstein is best known for his role as Roy Kent in “Ted Lasso,” and the pairing of the two has driven significant social media interest since the film’s promotional campaign began in May.

Netflix did not release specific viewership figures but confirmed the film had reached its top global position across 79 countries. The platform’s internal metric, viewing hours in the first seven days, was described as among the highest for a romantic comedy on the service since 2024.

Goldstein brings a different energy to the role than the typical Hollywood leading man. His background in comedy and his deadpan delivery have become widely recognized since Ted Lasso became a cultural phenomenon, and his casting opposite Lopez is a pairing Netflix clearly believes has cross-demographic appeal.

The film’s success adds to a busy entertainment month. Streaming audiences have had multiple strong options competing for their attention. Mexico 86 on Netflix was drawing sports audiences with its World Cup tie-in earlier this month. And theatrical releases have also been strong — Toy Story 5 opened to significant critical acclaim ahead of its June 19 Juneteenth release, drawing families toward cinemas rather than streaming.

“Office Romance” is available on Netflix now, and the platform has already commissioned a follow-up given the film’s early performance. Lopez is attached to return for the sequel, which would continue the story of her character beyond the events of the first film.

The commercial performance of “Office Romance” reinforces that romantic comedies remain one of the most reliable genre bets Netflix has, even as the platform continues to invest in prestige drama and action titles that generate more awards attention. Audiences keep coming back for feel-good entertainment that delivers on its premise.
