Apple Q3 2026 Earnings: iPhone Sales Surge 22%, But Stock Tumbles on Weak Outlook

By Tarek HasanAugust 1, 20262 Mins Read

Apple reported fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings on July 30 that beat analyst expectations on revenue and profit, then fell 6.65% after hours when the company issued weaker-than-expected guidance for the current quarter.

iPhone revenue jumped 22% to $54.3 billion. Earnings per share came in at $2.02 versus the forecast of $1.89. But Apple said growth would slow to 9-11% next quarter, missing Wall Street’s expectation of 12% expansion.

iPhone Boom Masks Broader Concerns

The 22% surge in iPhone revenue marked the strongest quarter in years. Customers rushed to upgrade ahead of rumored new models. Mac sales also climbed as people bought laptops.

Services revenue grew steadily. Wearables and accessories held their own. But Apple guided lower for the current quarter, a sign the company expects the upgrade cycle to peak.

Supply Constraints and Margin Pressure

Apple cited supply constraints as the reason for cautious guidance. The company faces real limits on how many chips it can source and manufacture. This throttles production below demand.

Margins may also compress. Apple didn’t detail this, but analysts note that component costs haven’t fallen as expected, and the weak guidance hints at price pressure or lower-than-hoped pricing power on new models.

CEO Transition and Stock Reaction

This was CEO Tim Cook’s last earnings call before stepping down. The transition adds uncertainty. Markets sold Apple shares hard after the report, punishing the company for not maintaining triple-digit growth rates.

Apple stock fell to $311.25 in after-hours trading from a $333.43 close. The 6.65% drop reflected investor focus on slower growth ahead rather than celebration of a beat quarter.

Apple’s earnings show the law of large numbers catching up: a $400 billion revenue base can’t grow at startup speeds forever.

FYI (keeping you in the loop)

Will Apple stock recover?

Depends on iPhone demand in Q4 and Q1. If new models surprise on sales, stock rebounds. If guidance proves correct, expect sideways trading.
