Tesla will reveal the electric Roadster in August 2026, finally giving the world its first look at the supercar Elon Musk promised years ago but repeatedly delayed.

The unveiling happens in Texas, where production will take place at Gigafactory Texas. Tesla intends to start Roadster manufacturing around mid-2027. This reveal marks the company’s boldest EV bet since the Cybertruck.
SpaceX Thrusters and Acceleration
The headline feature is the SpaceX package, a suite of cold air thrusters positioned around the vehicle. These thrusters improve acceleration, braking, and cornering by using compressed air to apply downforce and lateral grip.
Musk has hinted that advanced versions could enable hover capabilities, though real-world deployment of that feature remains speculative. The base version will focus on making the Roadster the fastest accelerating production car ever built.
Performance and Design
Tesla hasn’t released official specs, but leaks suggest the Roadster will hit 60 mph in under two seconds. The design borrows styling cues from the original 2008 Roadster but modernizes every surface with cleaner lines and wider wheels.
Seating is for four adults, not two. The interior pairs sustainable materials with touchscreen controls. Charging happens via Tesla’s Supercharger network and potentially at home via new 250kW+ home systems.
A Long Wait for the Real Deal
This reveal caps nearly a decade of delays. Musk first promised the second-gen Roadster in 2017. April Fool’s Day came and went. Spring deadlines became summer targets. Each miss eroded faith until fans stopped asking when it would arrive.
August’s unveiling means production tooling is finalized and prototype testing is complete. The company wouldn’t show something it couldn’t build.
The Roadster reveal matters because it proves Tesla can still innovate at the extreme end of performance.
FYI (keeping you in the loop)
When can I buy a Tesla Roadster?
Production starts around mid-2027. Pre-orders likely open after the August reveal, with first deliveries expected late 2027 or early 2028.
