Acer has shown Project DualPlay Mini, a concept that combines a handheld game device with a small laptop. Acer’s official press release says the 8-inch device uses a flip-and-swivel design to move between handheld play and a laptop mode with a backlit physical keyboard. Geeky Gadgets reported the concept after Acer’s IFA 2026 presentation.
In handheld mode, the product is built around a touchscreen and game controls. Open the device and swivel the display, and a keyboard appears underneath. That creates a different arrangement for typing, browsing or other tasks that do not suit a gamepad.
Acer has not announced Project DualPlay Mini as a retail product. The company calls it a concept device, so the design should not be treated as a confirmed launch, price or specification sheet. Acer’s announcement is about the idea and the hardware layout rather than a delivery schedule.
The concept includes two different control approaches. A user can play with the built-in handheld controls, then move to the physical keyboard when the task changes. Acer says the device can also connect to an external monitor for productive work, although it has not published a full port list or final performance figures.
That flexibility is the reason the concept stands out among gaming handhelds. Most devices in the category are designed around controllers and a screen. DualPlay Mini asks whether the same compact machine can be useful for a short work session without carrying a separate laptop.
The design also raises practical questions. A keyboard under a swivelling screen adds moving parts, and a small chassis has to manage heat, battery life and ergonomics for both modes. Acer has not provided final dimensions, processor details or a production date, so those questions remain open.
For now, the verified news is a public concept shown at IFA 2026. It signals Acer’s interest in combining gaming and mobile work in one device, but it is not a promise that customers can buy the Project DualPlay Mini. Any future launch would need a separate announcement with complete specifications and availability.
