Gemini Notebook turns uploaded sources into an interactive mind map

By Yusuf ChowdurySeptember 11, 20262 Mins Read

Google’s Gemini Notebook can turn uploaded sources into a visual mind map that connects main topics and related ideas. Google’s help documentation describes the feature and its controls, while Geeky Gadgets reported the mind-map workflow in its September guide to the service, formerly known as NotebookLM.

Users start inside an existing notebook or create a new one, add sources and choose the Mind Map option in chat. Gemini Notebook then creates a note in the Studio panel. Google says the result is meant to provide a quick overview of source material rather than replace the original documents.

The map is interactive. Google says users can zoom and scroll, expand or collapse branches and select individual nodes to ask questions about a specific topic. That makes the feature useful for a large research packet where a reader needs to see how themes connect before opening every source.

Mind maps are generated from the material in the notebook. The service’s help page also warns that Gemini Notebook can be inaccurate and that users should double-check its responses. That warning is important for research, schoolwork and professional decisions: the visual layout is an aid to navigation, not independent proof of a claim.

Google provides two ways to share a map. A user can share the notebook so another person can load the same Studio output, or download the mind map from the window. Google says publisher restrictions may affect whether an artifact can be downloaded when a notebook includes a Play Books source.

The feature is part of Google’s wider change from NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. Geeky Gadgets describes other outputs such as reports, infographics and tables, but this article focuses on the documented mind-map function and its source-based workflow.

Google’s documentation lists usage limits that can change by plan. Users should check the current help page for their account tier. The verified news is that mind maps are available in the desktop experience with branching, zooming, node questions and sharing controls, subject to Google’s current limits.
