Pakistan fast bowler Aimen Anwar has retired from international cricket with immediate effect, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on August 26. The announcement drove a rise in searches for “aiman anwer” across India’s live trend list. The PCB said Anwar represented Pakistan in eight One-Day Internationals and 37 Twenty20 Internationals between July 2016 and February 2023.

Across those 45 matches, Anwar took four ODI wickets and 29 T20I wickets. She first emerged through Karachi’s Under-19 pathway and later received her Pakistan women’s T20I cap against England in Southampton in 2016. Her ODI debut came against Bangladesh in Colombo the following year, according to the board’s career summary.

Anwar was part of Pakistan squads at the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2018, 2020 and 2022–23, and also played at the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. The tournaments placed her within several important phases of Pakistan women’s cricket, even though her international appearances were spread across a relatively short period.

Her next chapter is already taking shape away from the boundary. The PCB said Anwar has worked as a broadcaster and made her debut as a match referee in the ongoing National Women’s Under-19 Tournament after completing the induction course in January. The transition gives her a route to remain involved in the sport while using experience gathered as a player.

The International Cricket Council also carried the retirement announcement, confirming the immediate end of her playing career. Neither the PCB nor the ICC report described a single injury or dispute as the reason for the decision. The available information presents it as Anwar’s retirement choice and highlights the broadcasting and officiating roles that now form the public focus of her cricket career. Her move also reflects the wider range of professional paths now available to former international players.
