Apple’s AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case can provide up to 22 hours of listening with Active Noise Cancellation, according to the company’s announcement and product specifications. MacRumors reports that the higher-priced version also adds on-stem volume control and supports wireless charging through an Apple Watch charger or a Qi charger.

Apple rates the earbuds for up to five hours of playback with ANC on a single charge. The company says that is one hour longer than AirPods 4 with ANC. The charging case adds the remaining listening time and can be recharged through USB-C, an Apple Watch charger or a compatible Qi charger.
The 22-hour figure applies to the AirPods 5 model with the Wireless Charging Case. Apple lists a different battery rating for the standard case, so buyers should check the model name before comparing the advertised endurance. The rating is a laboratory claim, not a guarantee for every volume level, call pattern or software feature.
The case has another practical change. Apple says its force sensor supports a swipe on the stem to adjust volume, a control that is new to this open-ear AirPods form. The wireless case also includes a speaker that can help owners locate it through Find My.
AirPods 5 are open-ear earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation. Apple says the new model removes up to 50 percent more external noise than AirPods 4 with ANC and uses a redesigned acoustic architecture. Those claims describe Apple’s testing and design goals; independent listening tests will be needed to judge performance in different environments.
The earbuds also work with Apple Intelligence features on a compatible iPhone, including Live Translation. That function is separate from the battery rating and may require supported software, languages and regions. Apple says preorders started September 9, with availability beginning September 18.
AirPods 5 start at $129 in the United States, while the version with the Wireless Charging Case starts at $149, according to MacRumors’ launch report. The story for buyers is therefore a choice between a lower entry price and longer ANC listening with extra charging and control features.
