Electra EV plans to more than double battery-pack capacity as orders rise

By Saleh MohammadSeptember 11, 20262 Mins Read

Electra EV is scaling its installed battery-packing capacity from 3.6 gigawatt-hours to more than 7 GWh as it responds to higher demand in India’s commercial electric-vehicle market. Autocar Professional reported the expansion in an interview with Electra EV chief executive Samir Yajnik, while Electra’s official site describes its battery-system manufacturing and electrification work.

The company’s primary manufacturing plant in Coimbatore is adding an automated third production line, according to Autocar Professional. The report says the line operates at a cycle time of 16 jobs per hour and can produce up to 8,000 battery packs each month.

Autocar Professional says the new line is mainly dedicated to Electra’s battery-energy-storage-system division. That business has secured an initial multi-hundred-unit contract for telecommunications tower energy-storage units, giving the capacity expansion a use beyond vehicle packs.

Electra is also changing how it locates production. The interview says the company is developing near-shore assembly facilities close to original-equipment plants and export ports. A new facility is being established in Chennai, while Gujarat and Maharashtra are under consideration for other sites.

The report describes the capacity plan in the context of a five-fold increase in monthly business run-rate over six months. That figure is Electra’s stated operating update, not an independent market forecast. The company has moved from platform development and quality-system validation toward higher-volume commercial work, according to the interview.

Electra’s official battery-systems page says its engineering work includes structural durability, thermal management and an intelligent battery-management system that uses Edge AI. Those capabilities provide context for the company’s production focus, but they do not establish a separate sales figure or customer list beyond the details reported by Autocar Professional.

The verified news is a reported capacity increase and manufacturing expansion. Electra has not announced a consumer vehicle launch in this report. The development matters because battery packing, storage systems and local assembly are parts of the supply chain required for commercial EV growth.
