Apple describes this format as 4K120 Dolby Vision recording. The 4K120 mode is a camera feature rather than a claim about every video setting on the phone. Apple’s announcement identifies the Fusion Main camera as the source. The company also says users can apply Cinematic effects after capture at up to 60 frames per second.
For viewers, 120 frames per second gives editors more frames to work with when footage is played back more slowly. Apple says the Duo can use Dolby Vision for that recording. The result still depends on lighting, storage space and the way the final video is exported or shared.
The foldable design gives the camera system another role. Apple says the phone can be propped up without a tripod for longer-duration time-lapse recording. The outer display can show a live preview so subjects can check framing, and the phone has an under-display FaceTime camera on the inner screen.
MacRumors reports that the Duo’s camera system also includes two rear 48-megapixel cameras, optical-quality 2x zoom and macro photography. Those details describe the wider camera setup, but the 4K120 claim is tied specifically to the Fusion Main camera in Apple’s announcement.
Apple has not claimed that the Duo replaces a dedicated cinema camera. The sensible takeaway is narrower: it brings a high-frame-rate Dolby Vision option to a foldable iPhone and adds post-capture Cinematic effects at a lower frame rate.
Apple says iPhone Duo preorders begin October 16, with availability from October 23. The phone starts at $1,999. Review testing will be needed to assess sustained recording time, heat, file sizes and real-world image quality once the device is available.
