Apple Watch Series 12 is adding a group of Audio Intelligence features that can help users catch missed moments in conversation and notice important sounds. Apple says the tools use the watch microphone, the S11 chip, Apple Intelligence models on iPhone and Private Cloud Compute. MacRumors reports that the same feature set is also coming to Apple Watch Ultra 4.

Live Rewind can show a text snippet of the previous 15 seconds of a conversation after a double press of the Digital Crown. Siri Recap can create a high-level title and key points after a conversation. Apple says the recap is not a transcript and that users can turn the function on or off from Control Center.
Series 12 also adds Sound Recognition on the watch. Apple lists sirens, alarms, doorbells and a baby crying as examples of sounds that can trigger an alert. The watch is intended to recognize those sounds even when the paired iPhone is not nearby, which may help users who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Shazam is another part of the Audio Intelligence package. The watch can identify nearby music and show the song title and artist in the Music Recognition widget in the Smart Stack. Apple presents the feature as a quick way to stay aware of music without opening a phone.
Privacy is a central part of Apple’s description. The company says the features do not create or store audio recordings. Raw audio is processed in an isolated Secure Exclave on the S11 chip and deleted after processing. Siri Recap and Live Rewind are opt-in, and Apple says the summaries are end-to-end encrypted in the Siri app with iCloud syncing.
The features arrive in beta later this year and require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone for the supported functions. Apple says Series 12 is introduced with watchOS 27, while Siri AI will roll out in beta on September 14 for supported devices set to English.
Apple has not presented Audio Intelligence as a medical diagnostic tool. It is a set of accessibility, memory and awareness functions for daily use. Independent testing will show how useful the alerts and summaries are in real conversations once the beta becomes available.
