The government has moved to bring music, drama, dance, fine arts and crafts into the primary school curriculum, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said on Tuesday, outlining a phased plan that will begin with the introduction of a new textbook for Class IV students.

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting organised by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on 10 June, Hajjaj said a textbook titled “Art and Culture” will be introduced from 2027 as part of the government’s effort to expand the scope of learning at the primary level.
According to the state minister, the new subject will initially be introduced for Class IV students before being fully incorporated into primary education under the new curriculum in 2028.
The planned curriculum changes would formally include music, drama, dance, fine arts and crafts within primary education, marking a significant addition to the subjects currently taught in schools.
Hajjaj disclosed the initiative while addressing participants at the ministry-organised meeting, where the future direction of primary education was discussed.
No further details were provided regarding the structure of the new textbook, the teaching framework, or how the subjects will be implemented in classrooms.
