Nearly three weeks after its Republic Day release, Border 2 continues its theatrical run across India, though the pace has begun to ease. The war drama, which opened in cinemas on 23 January 2026, had benefited from the long holiday window and sustained audience interest in its first two weeks. By its third Monday, however, the signs of fatigue at the box office are becoming visible.

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is positioned as a standalone sequel to the 1997 classic Border. The film revisits the 1971 India-Pakistan war, widening the canvas to include coordinated action involving the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy. From the outset, the scale and familiar patriotic themes drew crowds, particularly in the northern circuits and urban centres.

The cast played a significant role in driving early momentum. Sunny Deol returned to the war genre in a leading role, joined by Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. Supporting performances from Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana added emotional weight to the large-scale battle sequences, helping the film find acceptance with family audiences.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 crossed the Rs 300 crore mark in India net collections by Day 16. A healthy jump was seen over the third weekend, with Day 17 bringing in around Rs 6.9 crore. This pushed the cumulative total to approximately Rs 309.40 crore, reaffirming the film’s strong hold beyond its opening fortnight.

Day 18, however, appears to be a different story. Early trends suggest a sharp drop of over 50 percent compared to the previous day. The film is expected to struggle to reach Rs 4 crore on its third Monday, with estimates hovering closer to Rs 2 crore. Morning shows reflected this slowdown, recording an occupancy of just 4.49 percent and collections of around Rs 20 lakh.

Despite the dip, the overall run remains substantial. Speaking earlier about the film’s performance, Anurag Singh had noted that the team was confident about the emotional connect. He said the numbers were always secondary to audience response, adding that box office figures tend to follow when viewers engage with the story.

As Border 2 settles into the weekdays of its third week, the focus now shifts to how long it can maintain steady footfalls. For the moment, the film stands as one of the major commercial successes of the season, even as daily earnings begin to taper off.
