Glasgow focused on using existing venues and temporary facilities to keep costs manageable.
The Games remain a significant platform for athletes from smaller nations that don’t have the resources to dominate Olympic Games. For countries like Malta, Mauritius, and others, the Commonwealth Games are where their athletes get global exposure and medals that matter for national pride.
India’s Medal Prospects
India traditionally medals well at the Commonwealth Games, with strengths in athletics, weightlifting, badminton, and shooting. The 2026 Games offer Indian athletes a chance to test themselves before the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The Games also feature sports that India dominates on the world stage. Indian badminton and shooting squads are among the best in the world, and the Commonwealth Games are a stage to prove it before heading to the Olympics.
