Warner Bros. released Evil Dead Burn in theaters today, the sixth installment in the Evil Dead franchise and a standalone sequel to Evil Dead Rise. Directed by Sebastien Vanicek and Florent Bernard and produced by Sam Raimi, the film stars Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, and Luciane Buchanan in a supernatural horror tale.
The film landed a respectable 77 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from 82 critics, averaging a 6.4 out of 10 score. That critical reception positions Evil Dead Burn above several recent horror releases and suggests audiences will find a legitimate entry in a franchise that has evolved significantly since its 1981 debut.
Series Evolution
The Evil Dead franchise has shifted from low-budget cult horror to prestige horror over recent decades. Evil Dead Rise impressed critics and audiences in 2023, establishing a template for contemporary takes on the material. Evil Dead Burn builds on that momentum while carving its own narrative path.
The film was originally scheduled for July 24 but moved forward to today, suggesting studio confidence in box office performance against summer competition.
International Distribution
Sony Pictures Releasing handles international territories through its Screen Gems banner, with StudioCanal, Metropolitan Filmexport, and Volga managing UK, France, and Russia respectively. The wide international reach reflects major studio backing for the franchise.
Evil Dead Burn opens today in North American theaters.
