A government move to widen the Fuel Pass system is set to bring private vehicles into a framework that was, until now, limited to motorcycles. From Sunday, a segment of private vehicle owners in Dhaka will be able to register, marking the beginning of a broader rollout.

Officials at the Ministry of Energy said the initial phase will cover vehicles registered under the ‘ka’, ‘kha’ and ‘ga’ series. The inclusion is partial for now, with authorities indicating that other registration series will be brought under the system in stages.

The decision reflects an effort to extend oversight across fuel distribution points in the capital. The Fuel Pass system, introduced earlier for motorcycles, is expected to become mandatory for private vehicles at all filling stations in Dhaka once the expansion is complete.

There has been no indication of changes to the existing process itself. Vehicle owners have been advised to register using the Fuel Pass mobile application or through a designated website, both of which remain the primary access points to the system.

Officials familiar with the development described the expansion as a continuation rather than a shift in policy direction. They did not outline a specific timeline for when the remaining vehicle categories would be integrated, but confirmed that inclusion would be gradual.

For now, the focus appears to be on bringing a defined group of private vehicles into the system and observing how the transition unfolds at the station level. Filling stations across Dhaka are expected to align with the requirement as the system moves toward full enforcement.

The ministry’s call for prompt registration suggests that authorities are looking to avoid congestion or delays once compliance becomes mandatory. For many vehicle owners, this will be their first direct interaction with the system, which has so far operated within a narrower user base.

How quickly the wider rollout progresses may depend on early uptake and operational readiness on the ground. For now, the expansion signals a steady shift toward a more structured approach to fuel access in the city.
