iPhone 17 Lineup Leaks: Thinner Air Model and A19 Chip Confirmed

By Tarek HasanJuly 25, 20262 Mins Read

The iPhone 17 lineup is real and it’s thinner. Apple will release a base iPhone 17, an iPhone 17 Air at 5.6mm thickness, and Pro and Pro Max versions. The thinnest iPhone ever is coming. Leaks from supply chain sources suggest the Air model will be Apple’s thinnest phone since the original iPhone 6. It’s a return to the thinness era after years of chasing battery capacity.

The A19 chipset will power these phones, built on TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. That’s a generational leap in manufacturing efficiency. Smaller transistors mean faster chips at lower power draw. Apple’s been iterating the same basic A-series architecture for years now. The A19 doesn’t need to reinvent anything. It just needs to deliver reliable performance that justifies the upgrade.

Design and Cameras

The iPhone 17 and Pro models will use aluminum frames. Aluminum is lighter than stainless steel, which helps with the thinness goal. The Pro Max stays with stainless. Camera rumors suggest the base model gets a 50MP main sensor with an ultra-wide and periscope telephoto. That’s the Triple camera array most flagships have now. It’s good enough.

Last-minute leaks mention Apple is working on a cross-body strap for the iPhone 17. A magnetic lanyard. That’s a small detail, but it suggests Apple is thinking about how people actually hold and carry phones. Straps are back in fashion. If Apple offers one, fans will buy it.

Timing and Price

Apple typically announces new iPhones in September. The iPhone 17 announcement should follow that pattern. Availability probably hits October. Pricing should stay consistent with current models unless supply issues push costs up. Given the RAMageddon situation, memory prices are high. That could pressure MSRP, but Apple usually absorbs cost increases rather than passing them to customers.

The iPhone Air is the wildcard. At 5.6mm, it’ll be genuinely different. Thinner phones feel different in hand. They’re easier to pocket. If Apple nails the price, the Air could pull sales from the Pro. Apple will price it to avoid cannibalizing Pro sales, but customers will notice the Air offers 80 percent of Pro features at a better value.

The iPhone 17 Air proves Apple still wants to compete on thinness, even if performance gains have plateaued.
