US recall covers 1,513 pounds of imported guanciale over Listeria risk

By Saleh MohammadSeptember 8, 20262 Mins Read

The US pork recall covers about 1,513 pounds of imported ready-to-eat guanciale that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Prime Line Distributors and Ferrarini USA were recalling the products.

The affected food is dry-cured pork jowl, also sold as guanciale. FSIS said the products were made at Italy’s Bome SRL establishment and entered the United States during July on several import dates.

One identifying detail is the lot code. The recalled packages carry LOT 263311US, and the label lists a best-if-used-by date of May 16, 2027, according to the agency notice and independent food-safety reporting.

The product was distributed to retailers and restaurants in several states. The published recall information is the best reference for checking the label, so buyers should compare the brand, product description, lot code and date before deciding what to do.

FSIS said the recall followed notification from the importer, which reported that the product may be adulterated with Listeria. The notice does not establish that every package is contaminated, but it does remove the affected lot from normal sale while the risk is addressed.

People who have the recalled product should not serve it. FSIS advises consumers to throw it away or return it, and it warns that food contaminated with Listeria can look and smell normal.

Restaurants and retailers also have a separate responsibility. They should check storage areas, coolers, invoices and prepared-food records so the affected lot is not sold or served while the recall is active.

Food Safety News and Food Poison Journal reported the same recall details, including the lot and date, alongside the federal notice. Their coverage helps identify the item, while FSIS remains the primary source for the official recall instructions.

The recall is a product-specific food-safety action. It is not evidence that all pork or all Italian meat products are affected. Customers should use the federal notice and the label details to determine whether their package is part of the recall.
