Netflix Reveals AI Was Used on About 300 Movies and Shows in 2026

By Sadia Afrin JoyaJuly 21, 20262 Mins Read

Netflix disclosed in its July shareholder letter that approximately 300 of its movies and shows have used generative AI tools so far in 2026. The announcement caught the industry by surprise, as the streamer had been quietly integrating the technology across production.

Netflix Reveals

AI was used throughout the production pipeline: from concept and pre-visualization to filming and post-production. Netflix said generative AI helped create highly complex sequences, including enhanced crowd sizes and battle scenes. The company stated it was leveraging these tools to deliver higher quality output more quickly and at lower cost than traditional methods.

Which Shows Got the Treatment

Netflix singled out three programs for their use of the technology. Glory, an Indian sports thriller series, used AI to enhance scenes. Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri, a Brazilian soccer miniseries, applied the tools to recreate historic footage. The American Experiment, a documentary about the American Revolution, used AI to generate crowd sequences and battlefield imagery.

The company has not released a complete list of the 300 affected titles, leaving viewers to wonder which shows they’ve watched actually relied on the technology.

Questions About Quality

The revelation raises questions about what Netflix considers acceptable AI integration. Generative AI sometimes produces subtle artifacts that trained eyes can spot. Some viewers and filmmakers worry the streaming giant is trading consistency for speed.

Netflix has not announced whether future releases will disclose their use of AI, leaving the door open to more silent integrations. The company is betting that audiences care more about story than production method.

This is the clearest sign yet that AI is embedded in mainstream entertainment now, no longer confined to experimental productions or niche projects.
