Staff Correspondent: Amid the hustle and bustle of the capital city lies Nikunja Tanpara, a green and aspiring community that has long dreamed of a better future. For years, its residents have endured civic hardships, infrastructural neglect, and a lack of development. Today, however, a new chapter begins as the community celebrates a significant milestone.

The Nikunja Tanpara Welfare Society has officially received registration from the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (Registration No. S-14887/26). This achievement is not merely an administrative formality; it marks the beginning of a new journey toward building a modern, livable, and secure neighborhood.
With this registration, the organization now possesses the legal and institutional foundation necessary to operate more effectively and systematically. More importantly, it has inspired renewed hope among residents for a prosperous, organized, and sustainable community. In this regard, the registration is not simply the acquisition of a certificate—it represents the collective aspirations and unity of the people of Nikunja Tanpara.
There was a time when Nikunja Tanpara was often associated with waterlogging, deteriorating roads, and severe traffic congestion. In response to these challenges, local residents came together and established the Nikunja Tanpara Welfare Society. As a non-political social organization, it quickly earned recognition through action rather than rhetoric.
Whenever crises emerged, the members of the society stepped forward not for personal gain, but out of their commitment to the welfare of the community. Over the years, the organization has played a significant role in improving drainage systems, protecting the local playground from encroachment, enhancing road safety, addressing hazardous infrastructure, and assisting residents with complex land-related issues such as land tax payments, mutation procedures, and other administrative matters.
Many problems that remained unresolved despite repeated visits to government offices were addressed through the society’s persistent efforts. As a result, the organization has evolved into a symbol of trust and reliability for local residents.
Creating a safe and livable community requires both vision and courage. The Nikunja Tanpara Welfare Society demonstrated such leadership on April 30 of last year. At the time, battery-powered auto-rickshaws had become a major concern due to reckless driving, traffic congestion, and frequent accidents.
To ensure public safety and improve traffic management, the organization took the bold initiative of prohibiting these vehicles throughout the area. The decision was not easy to implement. However, with strong public support and determined leadership, the initiative was successfully carried out.
For the residents of Nikunja Tanpara, April 30 became a historic day. Since then, the area has experienced improved discipline, safer roads, and a more comfortable environment for pedestrians. The success of this initiative demonstrated the power of community unity and collective action.
Behind this remarkable achievement stands the tireless leadership of senior journalist Jahid Ikbal, Convener of the Nikunja Tanpara Welfare Society.
Reacting to the registration, he stated:
“Today is a day of great achievement for the people of Nikunja Tanpara. This registration certificate is not merely a legal document; it symbolizes the long-cherished aspirations of our community. From the very beginning, our philosophy has been simple—we believe in action, not empty promises. The support and encouragement of local residents have always been our greatest source of strength. With this official recognition, our responsibilities and accountability have increased significantly. We are committed to working in a more organized manner to protect the environment, improve drainage systems, and enhance civic facilities. Our ultimate goal is to transform Nikunja Tanpara into a drug-free, safe, green, and modern model community for future generations.”
He further added:
“We firmly believe that when people rise above personal interests and unite for the common good, no obstacle is insurmountable. The successful implementation of the auto-rickshaw ban was only possible because of the extraordinary support of local residents. This registration opens new opportunities for us. We hope the community will continue to provide valuable advice, active participation, and unwavering support as we move forward. We want to create a culture where every resident considers community problems as their own and works collectively to solve them.”
The registration has generated widespread enthusiasm among local residents. Community leaders, senior citizens, and young people alike believe that official recognition will facilitate greater cooperation with government agencies and improve access to administrative support for local development initiatives.
Many long-standing issues can now be presented more effectively to the relevant authorities, creating greater opportunities for legal and administrative solutions. Residents view this registration as the beginning of a new era of sustainable development for Nikunja Tanpara.
Local residents also believe that the society has played an important role in raising civic awareness. From maintaining cleaner streets and reducing mosquito infestations to promoting social harmony, the organization has increasingly become a guardian of community interests.
The transformation of Nikunja Tanpara demonstrates that when citizens remain united and proactive, even the most difficult challenges can be overcome. This success is not only a victory for an organization but also a triumph of collective consciousness, dignity, and community spirit.
Looking ahead, the society plans to expand its activities through various initiatives, including tree plantation programs, educational assistance funds for underprivileged and talented students, and the establishment of a social center for senior citizens. Through these efforts, the organization aims to prove that meaningful development is achievable when visionary leadership is combined with active public participation.
The Nikunja Tanpara Welfare Society now stands ready to continue its journey as a catalyst for positive change. With the active involvement of residents, the organization hopes to transform Nikunja Tanpara into a model residential community in the years to come.
The society also plans to utilize digital technologies to modernize community services and improve civic engagement. Residents hope that the organization’s future endeavors will continue to be guided by integrity, transparency, and dedication.
Ultimately, the registration of the Nikunja Tanpara Welfare Society is more than the beginning of a new chapter—it is a promise of a brighter, more sustainable future. With the continued prayers, support, and participation of the community, this journey is expected to reach even greater heights.
Today, Nikunja Tanpara stands proud, having found its collective voice, its platform for progress, and a strong foundation for development—the Nikunja Tanpara Welfare Society.
