The oath-taking of newly elected Member of Parliament for a reserved women’s seat in Bangladesh’s 13th National Assembly was completed on Wednesday at the Speaker’s office, marking a routine but formal addition to the country’s legislative body.

The ceremony was administered by Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, who carried out the constitutional duty in line with the Third Schedule of Article 148 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, alongside Rule 5 of the parliamentary procedure. The setting was the Speaker’s office, where proceedings were kept formal and closely observed by senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat.
The newly elected MP, Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti, took the oath of office before signing the oath book in the Parliament Secretary’s room, following established parliamentary tradition. The moment, while procedural in nature, formally brings her into the legislative framework reserved for women representatives.
The oath-taking ceremony was chaired by Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat. He oversaw the proceedings from start to finish, ensuring the formal requirements were observed as outlined in parliamentary rules.
Present at the event were the Deputy Speaker, the Chief Whip of the Opposition, and several senior officials from the Parliament Secretariat. Their attendance reflected the institutional importance attached to even routine legislative onboarding, particularly in reserved seat appointments.
The process itself followed established constitutional practice, where the Speaker administers the oath before newly elected members assume parliamentary responsibilities. Once completed, members sign the official oath register, a step that formally records their entry into the National Assembly.
With the ceremony concluded, Nusrat Tabassum’s induction adds another member to the reserved women’s seat category of the 13th National Assembly, continuing the structured representation process defined under the country’s parliamentary framework.
