ZOOMBANGLA DESK: President M Abdul Hamid today asked the authority concerned of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to take pragmatic steps to raise its status as the international standard in the field of medicine, education and research activities.

The President came up with the directive as a BSMMU delegation, led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here this evening.

The head of the state highly appreciated BSMMU’s role in tackling pandemic COVID-19 outbreak and thanked all concerned, including physicians, nurses and other concerned for their relentless efforts during the tough time.

Abdul Hamid, the chancellor of the university, also suggested the delegation to continue treatment of the Corona patients without disrupting treatment of the patients with other diseases at this medical university in no way.

President Hamid also advised the university authority to make this university into a place of maximum trust and comfort in diagnosing diseases, providing medical services and treating patients and relatives.

The delegation also included Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr AKM Mosharraf Hossain, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Chhayef Uddin Ahmed and Director (Hospital) Brigadier General Md Nazrul Islam Khan.

Munshi Jalal Uddin, Deputy Press Secretary to the President, told BSS that the Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on overall activities of the university.

President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salauddin Islam and Secretary (attachment) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present there. (BSS)
