Samsung scheduled its Galaxy Unpacked event for Wednesday, July 22 in London. The company will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide model.
All three phones will run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to feature a 200 MP main camera, dedicated telephoto, ultra-wide, and two selfie cameras.
Three Foldables in One Launch
The trio signals Samsung’s confidence in folding phones. Most phone makers release one or two models per year. Samsung is launching three variations, each targeting different niches and price points.
The standard Z Fold 8 remains the flagship. The Z Fold 8 Ultra adds premium camera and performance features. The Z Fold 8 Wide is a new form factor—a wider, more passport-sized design for users who want different proportions.
Diversifying the lineup is smart. Folding phones are still a niche product. Offering multiple options lets Samsung capture different segments and learn which designs users prefer for future generations.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Powers All Three
Using the same processor across the lineup simplifies supply chains and manufacturing. Qualcomm’s latest chip is built for heavy AI workloads, suggesting Samsung expects on-device AI to matter on these phones.
The Gen 5 is faster and more power-efficient than its predecessor. Performance gains matter less than efficiency on foldables—larger screens and folding mechanisms demand battery management discipline.
Pre-orders Start Immediately After Announcement
Samsung typically opens pre-orders the same day of Unpacked. Availability usually follows a week or two later. Analysts expect sales to begin around August 7, 2026.
Pricing hasn’t been announced yet. Previous Z Fold models started around $1,899. The Z Fold 8 Ultra will likely command a premium, possibly exceeding $2,000.
Samsung is betting that foldables are here to stay. Three models in one launch makes that bet crystal clear.
FYI (keeping you in the loop)
What’s different about the Z Fold 8 Wide?
It’s a new form factor with wider proportions, closer to a traditional tablet size. Instead of a narrow phone-like aspect ratio when folded, the Wide model has a squarer appearance, appealing to users who prefer different ergonomics.
