Samsung has locked in its next flagship event for Tuesday, July 22 in London. The company will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch 8 series, and new earbuds.

The big story isn’t the specs. It’s the shape. The Z Fold 8 is reportedly getting a wider inner display—a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the tall, narrow panel every Z Fold has used since 2019. That change matters because it makes the phone more useful when folded open. A wider screen is closer to a tablet experience.
What Samsung Is Trying to Fix
The Z Fold series has always felt like a compromise. Folded out, it’s narrower than a regular phone. Folded shut, it’s chunky and bulky. A wider display on the inside addresses the first problem. It gives users more screen real estate without making the unfolded form factor even taller.
Samsung is also expected to introduce a Z Fold 8 Ultra variant—matching Apple’s naming scheme for the iPhone Ultra coming later this year. The Ultra will likely have a larger display, faster processor, and premium build compared to the standard Z Fold 8.
Coming Just Before Apple’s Foldable
Samsung is moving fast to get its 2026 foldables out before Apple launches its first foldable iPhone in September. For a decade, Samsung has owned the foldable market. Apple’s entry changes that. But Samsung gets first-mover advantage on the Z Fold 8 design, and that matters.
Availability is expected within weeks of the announcement, with pre-orders starting immediately after the event.
Samsung is betting that the wider Z Fold 8 fixes the usability gap. If it works, the company may finally have a foldable that feels like more than an expensive experiment.
