Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra on July 22 at Unpacked in London, marking a major shift in the company’s foldable strategy. The event introduced two new form factors: the wide-format Galaxy Z Fold8 and the more traditionally shaped Fold8 Ultra.

The Z Fold8 starts at $1,900, while the Ultra model commands a $2,100 price tag. This marks the first time Samsung has split its flagship foldable into two distinct designs targeting different user preferences.
Two Form Factors
The Z Fold8 keeps Samsung’s wider interior screen, expanding the inner display real estate for multitasking and media consumption. The Z Fold8 Ultra returns to narrower proportions, appealing to users who felt the previous generations too wide for one-handed use when closed.
Samsung gave the new lineup AI features on the FlexWindow, the always-on outer screen. The outer display can now run more complex apps without opening the phone fully. This bridges the gap between full use and quick glances.
Z Flip8 Gets Smarter
The Galaxy Z Flip8 carries forward the compact flip design with more intuitive AI integration on its cover screen. Samsung pushed AI as the connecting theme across all three devices announced.
Both devices are available for pre-order now, with full availability on August 7. Samsung expects strong demand, particularly from users waiting to see the company’s response to Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone coming next year.
Market Implications
The Z Fold8 Ultra is Samsung’s answer to users who want a foldable phone but worry about durability and practicality with a very wide closed form. The two-model strategy acknowledges that one size doesn’t fit all in foldables.
Pre-orders begin now with phones arriving in stores August 7. Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 also debuted at the event.
