TSMC Reports Record Profit on AI Chip Demand, Commits $100 Billion to Arizona

By Tarek HasanJuly 23, 20262 Mins Read

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company reported record profit in the second quarter of 2026, with net income up 77% year-over-year to roughly $22 billion. Revenue climbed 34% to $40.2 billion, driven by surging demand for AI hardware.

TSMC announced an additional $100 billion investment in Arizona operations, bringing total US commitment to $265 billion. The company plans to build four more semiconductor plants capable of 2-nanometer mass production and advanced packaging.

Record Profit on AI Demand

TSMC manufactures chips for NVIDIA, AMD, and other AI companies. As data centers worldwide build out AI infrastructure, demand for advanced processors exploded. TSMC’s gross margins expanded. The company is rationing capacity among customers.

The 77% profit increase is extraordinary even for TSMC. It reflects the intensity of AI investment globally. Every cloud company, every enterprise, every government wants better AI. That means more chips. That means more money for TSMC.

Arizona as Strategic Manufacturing

TSMC’s Arizona investment signals a permanent shift in US semiconductor strategy. For decades, the US outsourced advanced chip manufacturing to Taiwan. Geopolitical risks—Taiwan’s status, US-China relations—drove the rethink.

Arizona now represents over $260 billion in TSMC investment. The company plans eight factories already announced or underway, plus four more on top of that. This is not a branch office. It’s a second headquarters.

What This Means for Supply Chains

TSMC’s US expansion reduces risk for American companies that depend on advanced semiconductors. It also localizes chip production, shortening supply chains and reducing shipping time. But it doesn’t fully solve the Taiwan dependency. Most of TSMC’s advanced work still happens in Taiwan.

TSMC is printing money on AI demand and investing it in the US. That’s good news for American manufacturers, bad news for the global supply chain’s concentration in Taiwan.
