A gradual design shift inside WhatsApp is beginning to take clearer shape, as the messaging platform works toward extending its newer Liquid Glass interface into the core chat experience. The effort, still confined to testing, reflects a broader attempt by Meta to rework the appâs visual language without disrupting its familiar feel.

The changes have been unfolding in stages. Early signs appeared last year when parts of the Chats tab and the bottom navigation bar began adopting a softer, more layered look. Those updates introduced subtle visual depth, relying on transparency and shadow rather than sharp separations between elements.
Reporting from WABetaInfo now suggests the company is moving deeper into that redesign. The focus has shifted to the in-chat interface itself, where most user interaction happens. This is a more sensitive area to adjust, given how frequently and closely people engage with it.
The Liquid Glass approach leans on a floating chat bar and semi-transparent navigation elements. The aim appears to be a lighter interface, where layers overlap gently instead of sitting rigidly on screen. Small visual cues such as blur effects and shadowing are being used to create separation without adding clutter.
Some elements have already been updated in recent beta versions. Earlier this year, the voice message player received a similar treatment, hinting at how the rest of the interface might evolve. Even so, the rollout has been measured, with changes introduced in parts rather than all at once.
At present, the in-chat redesign remains under development and has not reached beta testers. That delay suggests the company is still refining how different components fit together before making the update more widely accessible.
