Xiaomi SU7 Sales Drop as New Generation Model Nears Launch

By iNews DeskMarch 16, 20263 Mins Read

Xiaomi SU7 recorded a dramatic sales slowdown in February after the company halted production of the current model ahead of a new generation launch. Only 218 units of the Xiaomi SU7 sedan were sold during the month, a steep fall compared with 23,728 units in the same period last year.

The sharp decline is linked to factory retooling for the next-generation Xiaomi SU7. Production lines were temporarily paused as Xiaomi prepared its facilities for the updated model, which is expected to debut later this month.

Production Transition Slows Xiaomi SU7 Deliveries

The drop in February deliveries reflects a production transition rather than weakening demand. The first-generation Xiaomi SU7 was discontinued in late February as the company prepared to introduce the next version of the electric sedan.

Assembly of the new-generation Xiaomi SU7 began around the same time. Early production volumes are estimated at roughly 800 units per day as factories gradually scale up operations.

The company aims to manufacture around 16,000 units in March as production stabilizes. Large-scale deliveries are expected to begin shortly after the official launch, following the same rollout strategy used for Xiaomi’s earlier electric vehicle releases.

Xiaomi Expands EV Ambitions With Updated SU7

The upcoming Xiaomi SU7 will enter the market slightly earlier than previously planned. The company had originally targeted April for the debut, marking two years since the first-generation sedan launched in 2024.

The original Xiaomi SU7 started at 215,900 yuan for the base version equipped with a 73.6 kWh battery and a CLTC-rated driving range of about 700 kilometers. The new model entered pre-sale earlier this year with a starting price of 229,900 yuan.

Automakers in China often adjust pre-sale pricing at launch to stimulate demand, so the final retail price could change when the car officially reaches showrooms.

Xiaomi’s electric vehicle division has expanded quickly since entering the automotive market. The company delivered more than 411,000 vehicles during 2025 and is targeting around 550,000 annual deliveries in 2026.

Alongside the Xiaomi SU7 sedan, the brand also sells the YU7 electric SUV. Another model, a large three-row extended-range SUV, is expected to join the lineup later this year as Xiaomi broadens its EV portfolio.

The February slowdown therefore reflects a production shift rather than a collapse in demand. With the new Xiaomi SU7 set to launch soon, the company is preparing for a fresh wave of deliveries as its electric vehicle lineup continues to grow.
