A company called Alchemiq has launched a tool that lets journalists and communications teams search for real-time news, trends and story opportunities directly inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, rather than switching to a separate news platform.

The tool, called the Alchemiq News Discovery MCP, connects to AI chatbots through the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI assistants call outside tools and data sources during a conversation. Once connected, a user can ask their chatbot for current news on a topic and get results pulled from Alchemiq’s live index, rather than relying on the model’s own training data.
The gap Alchemiq is targeting is a real one. General-purpose AI chatbots are not built to track breaking news as it happens, and most have some delay between an event occurring and that event showing up in what the model knows, even with web browsing features turned on.
By plugging directly into ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude through MCP, Alchemiq is betting that newsrooms and marketing teams will want to do more of their research inside the chat interface they already use daily, instead of keeping a separate news monitoring tool open in another tab.
The launch adds Alchemiq to a growing list of companies building MCP connectors for specific professional workflows, following the protocol’s rapid adoption since Anthropic first introduced it as an open standard in late 2024.
MCP has since been adopted by OpenAI, Google and Microsoft for their own AI products, turning what started as a single company’s specification into something closer to a shared industry standard for connecting AI assistants to outside tools.
Alchemiq has not disclosed pricing for the News Discovery MCP or said how many newsrooms have already connected it. The company positions the tool as aimed primarily at journalists, communications professionals and marketing teams who need to spot developing stories quickly.
Whether newsrooms adopt AI chatbots as a primary research surface, rather than a supplementary one, remains an open question the industry has not settled.
