Alphabet reported Q2 2026 earnings on July 22 that beat analyst expectations, with the company posting earnings per share of $9.11 against a consensus estimate of $2.87, a 217% beat.

Total revenue climbed to $119.8 billion, representing 24% growth year-over-year. The company has now delivered twelve consecutive quarters of double-digit revenue growth, a streak that reflects Google’s dominant position in search and YouTube advertising, combined with accelerating growth in cloud infrastructure.
Google Cloud Accelerates at 82% Growth
Google Cloud emerged as the company’s fastest-growing segment, with revenue jumping 82% to $24.8 billion. The acceleration reflects enterprises shifting workloads to Google’s cloud platform and paying higher prices for AI-ready infrastructure. Google’s investment in tensor processing units and AI-optimized data centers is beginning to justify the capital expenditure.
Google Search & other revenue increased 17% to $59.5 billion, driven by improving search ad prices. YouTube ads climbed 13% to $8.7 billion as YouTube remains the dominant video advertising platform globally.
Massive Capital Expenditure Boost
Alphabet raised its expected capital expenditure for 2026 to as high as $205 billion, signaling the company’s commitment to building out AI infrastructure at massive scale. Every dollar spent on data centers, chips, and networking represents future earnings potential but also constraints on current profitability.
The capital expenditure hike initially drove the stock lower in after-hours trading, but the strong earnings ultimately reassured investors that Google’s infrastructure investments are strategically sound.
Search Remains Profitable Core
Google Search generated $59.5 billion in Q2 revenue, providing the cash flow to fund cloud infrastructure buildout and AI research. Despite competition from AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Google’s search advertising business continues to generate roughly $240 billion in annual revenue at current run rates.
YouTube’s advertising revenue of $8.7 billion in Q2 keeps Google’s video platform one of the most valuable ad networks globally.
Alphabet’s Q2 earnings demonstrate that established tech giants can grow faster than the broader economy while simultaneously investing in the next generation of computing infrastructure.
