Angie Nixon defeated Alex Vindman in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary, according to race calls reported by the Associated Press and Axios. The Alexander Vindman campaign is now over at the primary stage.

The result leaves Nixon as the Democratic nominee in the contest for the US Senate seat held by Republican Ashley Moody. Nixon ran a statewide campaign that received support from the Democratic Socialists of America.
Axios reported that Nixon overcame a fundraising disadvantage to defeat Vindman. Vindman, a former White House national security official, had entered the primary as a better-known candidate with a national profile.
The primary result now moves Nixon toward the general-election phase of the Florida Senate contest. The Republican nominee and the wider campaign will determine the next competitive stage.
The result is separate from the Florida House primary in which Cory Mills lost his bid for re-election. The two races were among the Florida contests drawing national attention during the primary cycle.
Nixon’s victory gives the Democratic Party a nominee with a statewide platform for the next phase. Vindman’s loss ends his campaign for the party nomination in this Senate contest.Angie Nixon defeats Alex Vindman in Florida Senate primary
