Apple announced iOS 27 at WWDC 2026, bringing AI-powered improvements across the iPhone operating system. The focus is efficiency and on-device intelligence powered by Apple Intelligence—Apple’s term for local AI processing.

iOS 27 works on all devices that supported iOS 26, with optimization for iPhone 11 or later. The update rebuilds search across Spotlight, Mail, and Photos for stability and speed. Safari gets tab management improvements. Password updating can now happen with a single tap.
Siri Gets Smarter
Siri received a significant overhaul with improved natural language understanding and cross-app context awareness. The assistant can now reference information from multiple apps and handle more complex requests without sending data to Apple’s servers.
On-device processing protects privacy—a core Apple selling point against Google and other competitors. Siri’s improvements matter only if they feel responsive and natural. Apple emphasized reduced latency for Siri responses in local processing.
Photography and Sharing
iCloud shared albums now work with full-resolution photos. Cross-platform support means Android and Windows users can access shared albums without compromise. Photos app gets enhanced search and organization features.
Parental controls and child safety features got time in the WWDC keynote. Apple is signaling willingness to address concerns about youth safety while respecting privacy.
Leadership Transition
CEO Tim Cook announced he’s handing leadership to Senior Vice President John Ternus on September 1, ending Cook’s tenure at WWDC. This is Cook’s last WWDC as CEO—a notable milestone for one of tech’s most visible leaders.
iOS 27 positioning Apple as committed to on-device AI while maintaining its privacy-first brand identity.
