Ariana Grande‘s “Petal” releases July 31 through her imprint Babydoll Music and Republic Records. It’s her eighth studio album, and it arrives mid-Eternal Sunshine Tour, which runs June through September 2026.
The album was co-written and executive produced by Grande and Ilya Salmanzadeh. It contains 12 tracks spanning roughly 30+ minutes. Lead single “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” released May 29, hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart.
What Petal Sounds Like
Grande describes the album as “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.” It’s a sonic pivot from her previous work—softer in places, more introspective in others.
The album was executive produced with Salmanzadeh, a frequent collaborator. Max Martin is involved on the lead single. The sound feels intimate, less concerned with maximizing streaming metrics and more focused on songs that breathe.
Tour Timing
Releasing an album while on a major world tour is risky. Tour dates can overshadow new music. But Grande’s fanbase will show up regardless. New songs performed live often become fan favorites before the album even drops.
The Eternal Sunshine Tour is massive. It crosses North America, Europe, Asia, and other territories through September. Fans will have heard these tracks performed live before the official release.
The Album Landscape
July 31 is crowded. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens the same day. Three major albums drop on July 24: Charli XCX, Tyla, and The Strokes. Petal has to find space in a saturated market.
Grande’s brand loyalty runs deep. Her albums sell regardless of chart conditions. “Petal” will likely debut at or near number one on the Billboard 200.
Petal represents Grande moving toward storytelling over spectacle. It may be her most personal album yet.
