An unreleased film tied to the long-running Avatar franchise has surfaced online months before its scheduled debut, drawing attention both for the circumstances of its leak and the unexpected early reaction from viewers.

The animated feature, titled The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, appeared online on Sunday after an anonymous user on X claimed to have received a digital copy through an apparent mistake by Paramount. That account circulated quickly, though subsequent reporting suggested the studio may have been the target of a hack. Paramount has not publicly clarified the chain of events.
Regardless of how the file emerged, portions of the film have already been widely viewed, despite there being no legal avenue to watch it at this stage. The early exposure has not dampened interest. Initial responses, based on those who have seen the leaked material, have been broadly positive.
The project has had a shifting release timeline. It was first set for an October 2025 theatrical debut before being delayed to January 30, 2026. Following changes linked to Paramountâs ownership, the release was pushed again. It is now expected to arrive on October 9, 2026, with a release planned on Paramount+.
Directed by Lauren Montgomery, the film continues the story from the original Avatar: The Last Airbender television series, which aired from 2005 to 2008. It marks the first production from Avatar Studios, a unit established to expand the franchiseâs animated universe.
The voice cast includes Eric Nam as Aang, alongside Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, Ke Huy Quan, RomÃĄn Zaragoza, Steven Yeun, Dave Bautista, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan and Freida Pinto.
The leak has placed the film in an unusual position months ahead of its intended release, exposing a work-in-progress or near-final version to an audience outside studio control. For now, viewers officially remain unable to access the film through legitimate channels, even as discussion around it continues to grow in online spaces.
