Federal agents seized electronic devices from former U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell and searched his Washington home as part of an investigation into sexual-misconduct allegations, according to reports. Swalwell’s name became a rising United States search on August 21 after the new law-enforcement development.

The Associated Press reported that agents seized devices from Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport on a Saturday and executed a search warrant at his Washington residence the following day. The AP account relied on a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation publicly.
CNN reporting carried by Yahoo’s AT&T news page also described the airport seizure and the home search. It said the investigation is connected to allegations that have been reported by CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle. Swalwell resigned from Congress in April after the allegations became public.
Swalwell has denied allegations of sexual assault and misconduct. The reports reviewed for this article describe an investigation and evidence seizure; they do not establish criminal liability or a final finding against him. The AP also reported that messages seeking comment from his attorney were left.
The case involves multiple proceedings and allegations, including an investigation identified by the Manhattan district attorney’s office. Because the inquiry is ongoing, details may change as authorities or attorneys release additional information. Any future charges, court filings or official statements will need to be distinguished from allegations and from actions taken during the investigation.
