The Fortnite server status page showed the game under maintenance on Aug. 20 as Epic Games began scheduled downtime for the v42.00 update.

Epic’s public status page said the scheduled maintenance began at 6:00 UTC, with matchmaking disabled 30 minutes earlier. The incident was listed as in progress, and the page said updates would be provided as necessary.
The official status page marked Fortnite, login, game services, parties, voice chat and matchmaking as under maintenance. Other Epic products, including Rocket League, were shown separately and were not part of the Fortnite incident.
Spanish gaming publication MeriStation reported that Epic temporarily disabled Fortnite servers from 10 a.m. Central European Summer Time to implement patch 42.00. The report said the update was intended to bring new content, including skins, cosmetic items and weapons.
Players checking the Fortnite server status should use Epic’s incident page rather than relying only on an in-game error message. The official page distinguishes scheduled maintenance from an unexpected outage and records whether an incident is still in progress or has been resolved.
Access can return at different times depending on the maintenance work and regional rollout. Epic’s status page remains the source for the live service state, while the MeriStation report provides the release context for the v42.00 downtime.
